About our Program
Welcome to Graduate Programs in History. SIUC offers a Masters of Arts in History, a Ph.D. in Historical Studies, and contributes to the cooperative SIUC/SIUE Ph.D. program.
Ours is a relatively small graduate program that allows students to develop close mentoring relationships with our faculty, whose historical interests include labor and business; urbanization, migration and the environment; colonialism and imperialism; women, family, gender and sexuality; and race and ethnicity.
SIUC has an excellent research library , and is a member of the I-share system, as well as the Newberry Consortium, a group of universities with special privileges at the Newberry Library in Chicago. Our programs stress original research, and also provide excellent teacher-training to many of our students.
